Introduction
The Newbridge Volleyball Club aspires to provide the support and facilities necessary for each member to achieve their potential and to enjoy their volleyball career to the full. The club sees volleyball as a means to improving the health, self-esteem and quality of life of its members and the role of the club shall be to bind the members together in a atmosphere of friendship and guidance so that each will train and compete for the love of it and remain a member for the friends they will make there.
History
Volleyball has been played in the Newbridge area since 1967 when the Military College Volleyball Club was founded. Over the years there have been many clubs such as Naoimh Brid VC, Phoenix VC, Oakleaf VC and Irish Ropes VC. All clubs won national honours from Division 4 winners to Division I Champions & Senior Championship winners in ladies and men’s competitions. The Curragh VC founded in 1975 was the forerunner of the current Newbridge Club.
The Curragh Volleyball Club changed its name to Newbridge Volleyball Club in 1994. Since then both ladies and men’s teams have come up through the leagues and our senior ladies team is the only Irish club team to play in European competition. We are currently building up our junior squads, as we believe that is where the future lies. We are putting in place a schools programme to develop volleyball at primary and secondary level. When our ladies team was relegated from the Premier League in 2010/11, we decided to put our trust in the youth of the club. This trust was repaid with a runners-up spot in Division 1 of the National League 2012/13 and winning Division 1 the following year with the youngest team ever at this level.
Our young teams have performed have performed extremely well over the years. The club are currently rebuilding and should be a force in the volleyball world again soon.
